Police shut down Wimbledon's 'first ever' illegal rave on Saturday night after more than 60 people started a party in vacant offices.
Loud music was heard by residents coming from rooms above the former Henry J Beans restaurant in The Broadway.
Officers were called to the rave at about 1am and it is understood they ejected people and re-secured the premises in the next half an hour.
The building, which is close to the junction with Southey Road, has been vacant since the restaurant closed about three months ago.
It is now owned by Premier Inn, which has planning permission to build a 149-bedroom hotel on the site.
Helen Clark Bell, manager of Wimbledon's business improvement district, said: "It's not happened before in Wimbledon as far as I am aware.
"The building has been bought by Premier Inn so we are hoping that premises will start to be developed so this doesn't happen.
She added: "I think it's a one off. It's very unlucky. Police were there very promptly and it didn't get out of control."
