A grieving mother-of-two is desperately trying to raise thousands of pounds to pay for her mother’s funeral.

Celebrities including Linda Robson have promoted and donated to Jessica Edwards’ plight after her mother Angela Ward died on Wednesday, October 1.

The grandmother-of-four had been battling cervical and bowel cancer after being diagnosed just over two years ago.

Now her heart-broken daughter is trying to raise £8,000 to pay for her to be buried in Figges Marsh Cemetery next to her beloved husband Paddy Ward who died in 1992.

Miss Edwards, 25, who has just given birth to baby boy Omari and has a three and-a-half-year-old daughter Tamiyah, said she is struggling to afford the cost of a funeral as she has no savings.

She left her job at a Wandsworth nursery then had baby Omari seven weeks ago.

She has set up a website, which has already attracted more than £1,100 of donations from people including those who have seen her appeal and felt compelled to give money.

She said she has spent most evenings taking to the streets with her young children with flyers and posters to ask for donations, spending £20 to print them at Morden library.

Miss Edwards, who lives in Mitcham, said: "We want people to see we are out there, not sitting at a computer waiting."

She said her mother had been battling cancer for a couple of years but she had been cleared of it a couple of months ago.

The £50 donation from Linda Robson was extra special to the family because her mother was a big fan of television show Birds of a Feather.

Miss Edwards said: "I was going to go and take her my daughter and baby boy for the first time for some family time but she passed away.

"My mum didn’t care about flowers or anything else, she just wanted to be with him, her husband."

Mrs Ward, 51, had been living in Hartlepool, although she lived in Mitcham and Wimbledon for most of her life before moving.

Miss Edwards said the situation had made her start planning for her own funeral, and warned other parents to do the same.

Miss Edwards, who hopes to set up her own nursery, said: "One thing I have realised is my mum didn’t have any money.

"I have children, I don’t want them in this situation - I want to pay for my own funeral."
