Coffee shop owners are celebrating after a bid to change the shop into a flat was scrapped.
Neighbours had rallied round to save the much-loved business the Coffee Cup in Effra Road, Wimbledon, with up to 100 letters of support being written and a petition collecting 61 signatures.
The business, which sits on the corner of Effra Road and Evelyn Road, has been run by husband and wife team Adele and Stephen Theron for the last three years.
The application to Merton Council to turn the small shop into a single studio flat was refused by the council on Wednesday, September 3.
Mrs Theron, 38, said: "We are happy, we are smiling.
"The community is smiling.
"We get a thumbs up every time someone goes past."
Mrs Theron said the support from the community over the last few weeks has been heart-warming.
Landlord Roman Shapiro, who put the application in at the beginning of August, said he would look at the application on his return from holiday.
