RideLondon cycle event to pass through Wimbledon and Putney on August 10
Thousands of cyclists will once again be passing through the streets of Merton and Wandsworth as part of the summer Prudential RideLondon event.
Residents are invited to line the streets to cheer on participants, many of whom will be raising money for charity.
The peloton will pass through Merton on the return leg from the Surrey Hills, after cyclists have already travelled from the Olympic stadium, before heading back to the finish line at the Mall via Raynes Park.
The last incline of the race will be up Wimbledon Hill towards Wimbledon Common before crossing Putney Bridge and onto The Mall.
The amateur cycle ride will be swiftly followed by the professional men’s race on the same day.
Full details, including maps of areas affected by road closures will be available on the Prudential RideLondon website in July.
Merton Council cabinet member for community and culture, Councillor Nick Draper, said: "I’m delighted that the RideLondon festival is returning to Merton this year.
"Crowds of residents and visitors to the borough lined the streets last year to catch a glimpse of the peloton and the atmosphere around Wimbledon and Raynes Park was fantastic with a range of fun activities taking place for all the family on the day.
"It is a great event for the community and local businesses and we will make sure that this year is even more successful by taking on the feedback we got from community groups, residents and businesses about last year’s festival."
