Richmond businessman Anthony Armstrong-Emery was proud to play his part in history in the build up to this year’s football World Cup in Brazil.

Armstrong-Emery owns six-time Brazilian state champions and former top flight club Alecrim FC, who played the first game to be hosted by World Cup venue Arena das Dunas in Natal, Brazil.

Alecrim, founded in 1915, crashed 2-0 to ABC in the Rio Grande Do Norte state championship, but Armstrong-Emery was not too downhearted.

“Despite reports suggesting that the stadium wouldn’t be completed on time, all the hard work has paid off and the construction looks amazing,” he said.

“This was a particularly historic occasion, and the game was a great opportunity for the team to make our supporters proud.”
