Water company pledges to freeze bills for five years

Wimbledon Guardian: Sutton and East Surrey said average bills will not increase before inflation from 2015 to 2020. Sutton and East Surrey said average bills will not increase before inflation from 2015 to 2020.

A water company has committed to keep its bills flat in real terms for five years.

Sutton and East Surrey Water said it will not raise its bills for the next five years and the only increases people will see will be caused by inflation.

Sutton and East Surrey Water supplies to 265,000 homes and 17,000 businesses across Morden, Croydon and Sutton, as well as East Surrey and parts of Kent and Sussex.

The pledge has been set out in its business plan for 2015 to 2020, as presented to water regulator Ofwat earlier this week, which also includes promises to reduce leaks and introduce a new tariff for people in financial difficulty.

The plan comes after the company surveyed its customers to see what they most wanted.

Chairman Jeremy Pelczer said: "We listened carefully to the views of our customers and stakeholders and have taken into account the challenging economic conditions.

"Our plan confirms there will be no increase in average bills before inflation over the next five years. Only inflation index adjustments will occur in each year of the plan."

So there is not a freeze then if the prices are going up in line with inflation???
In the real world most of us have not had a wage rise for years even to cover inflation

I trust that is a comment from LiberalsOut of the EU. Let me remind you all that thanks to the policy of the Conservatives, Labour and Lib Dems of being in the EU it has cost us £48 billion to comply with EU directives on our water supplies. There was nothing wrong with our water in the first place and despite spending all that money allegedly not one extra pint of capacity has been added to our water reserves. As the SE of England has less water/head than the Sudan it is incredible that the Conservative, Labour and Lib Dem politicians have not added any capacity to our water supplies. Particularly as they all subscribe to the great global warming scam and are in favour of 29 million Romanians and Bulgarians being given the legal right to all come here on Jan 1st next year. Lets hope that they all bring a bottle of water with them!

I have a funny feeling in my water that we will continue to get ripped off with water prices, especially while we are stuck with the S&ES Company monopoly and cannot chose our supplier as with all the other utility services

100% out of the EU !!!
My aim on here is to point out how useless the LibDem Council continues to be in this Borough
All the main parties are useless as well - I would not trust them to run a bath let alone my country

My neighbours have a meter because they were told it would be cheaper and despite being careful it costs more
You will still have the inflation increase
