I can understand the desperation of Mitcham's Labour councillors to improve the town centre.
Labour has been in charge for as long as I can remember and Mitcham has declined year on year.
Even Eastfield station was put in place by Conservatives in 2006, inspite of a Labour MP and administration prior.
The solution is a change of administration in Mitcham with the will and remit to wean people off benefits and handouts.
This will also require a change of the party of the sitting MP. Sticking a bus lane through the centre will not make any improvement although it might take out a few inebriates.
We have to encourage self reliance and work and we also need a better police presence in the town centre, there was bare knuckle fighting four weeks ago but no police turned up.
