• Wandsworth Carers’ Centre to receive a year’s worth of fundraising and awareness support from the store’s colleagues and customers • Customers were able to vote for their favourite charity to be considered • Fifth year of Local Charity partner initiative • Colleagues now planning fundraising activities over the next few months Sainsbury’s Balham have today announced that Wandsworth Carers’ Centre will receive a year’s worth of fundraising and awareness support. The charity who support and work with unpaid Carers will be the new Local Charity partner for the retailer’s Balham store.

The scheme, which began in 2009, has raised more than £5 million to support local communities in the last four years. The Balham store, situated in Balham High Road, has had great success in supporting previous local charities and last year raised over £300 for Balham Community Centre.

Customers had a huge say in this year’s announcement and voted in-store and online between 1st to 15th May. Members from the charity will be coming into store on Wednesday 17th July 2013 from 2pm to announce the partnership to customers.

Sainsbury’s Balham Store Manager said: “We’ve had a great response from our customers and we’re delighted to have chosen a charity which many of our customers and colleagues can associate with. We will now be working closely with the charity to ensure they really benefit from the Local Charity partnership”.

Wandsworth Carers’ Centre added: “We know the success that the Local Charity partnership has bought to many charities in Balham so when we received the recent phone-call to tell us the news, we were thrilled. The exposure and support is going to be massively beneficial to our charity and I’d like to thank every Sainsbury’s Balham customer who voted”.
