Police have appealed for witnesses after a mother was subjected to racist abuse in front of her daughter at a train station.

British Transport Police (BTP) have released CCTV images of a woman they would like to speak to about the incident which took place at Motspur Park station on October 9, 2012, at about 5pm.

The victim, a 41-year-old woman from Leatherhead, was standing at the top of the stairs at the station with her seven-year-old daughter, when she noticed two women coming up the stairs with a pushchair.

She waited for the women to reach the top, when one of them suddenly stopped and shouted racial abuse at her.

Police Constable Saul Marshall, the officer leading the investigation, said: “This must have been an intimidating incident for the victim and her daughter.

“Racially aggravated verbal abuse will simply not be tolerated anywhere on the rail network and we will do all we can to crackdown on this type of anti-social behaviour."

Anyone with information can call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
