Thiviya Niranjan has been nominated for a Merton Civic Award for giving up her Saturday mornings to help kids with their reading at Morden Library and has raised hundreds of pounds for charity.
Thiviya was the youngest volunteer in a summer reading challenge where she gave up 100 hours of her time to support young readers.
She enjoyed it so much she decided to continue being involved by volunteering for a Reading Out Loud event every Saturday where she helps children on verbal comprehension for three hours.
Even at the age of 12 years-old she enjoys raising money for charity. Thiviya, a pupil at Wallington High School for Girls, raised £180 in sponsorship by running three miles with her mother Priya Niranjan in a Race for Life event in aid of Cancer Research UK.
She also made 50 loom band bracelets to make extra money, paying for the equipment using her pocket money.
She raised £64.50 for Lepra, a charity that helps disadvantaged people in India and Bangladesh.
Thiviya, from Morden, has been nominated by her mother for the Young Persons Outstanding Achievement award.
Mrs Niranjan said she wants to encourage her daughter to continue with her activities and hopes other youngsters will follow her lead.
