It was with great excitement earlier this week, that I heard about Valves online portal for downloadable games (aka Steam), would be coming to Macs.

I've never really been one for PC gaming, mainly because I own a laptop with Windows Vista installed and I don't really see it as a games machine. If I want to play a game, I will just switch on the Playstation.

However, on occasion I have downloaded the odd game from Steam and since my laptop isn't that powerful, I have only downloaded basic games – The Secret of Monkey Island, Dark Forces (the original) and Toki Tori – titles that don't require too much from the machine they are running on.

So yesterday, I sat down at my Mac and decided to check it out.

I have to admit, I wasn't expecting the games I had purchased on my windows laptop to work - but as luck would have it, Valve have been generous enough to enable previous purchases (that are also available on the Mac) and include them in my games library. So should I choose to play a game of Toki Tori or Braid, I can install the game and play it on the Mac.

Another great incentive for downloading Steam is the fact they are giving away Portal (until May 24th I believe). So, yeah, thank you Valve.
