If you’ve been lucky enough to get an iPhone or iPod Touch for Christmas then I’d love to hear about what games you’ve been playing on your new device so far.

I’ve found a couple of unexpected treats during my festive break.

One of them is Touch Football 3D, an innovative and quirky footy game.

It’s basically five-a-side football inside a walled arena. The game is seen from a first-person perspective from whichever of the Weeble-like players is under your control at any given time.

The game is controlled via a series of clever swipe gestures for running, passing and shooting.

Touch Football from Sauce Digital features 32 national sides and various game modes, including World Cup and league.

The gameplay is quite hard to describe but it’s a really different take on the standard football video game. It’s got elements of table football and Subbuteo in there but the overall package is quite unlike anything I’ve played before. I’ve found it very enjoyable.

Another game which I’ve become strangely addicted to over the last few days is Tap Farm from Street View Labs.

Various people, most notably my wife, have eulogised about Farmville on Facebook, which I’ve never played owing to my general dislike of Facebook.

Certainly casual farming games have become a bit of a phenomenon recently but the trend has passed me by as I’ve dismissed these games for being, well, stupid to put it frankly.

However, on a whim I decided to try out Tap Farm, the closest thing yet to Farmville on the iPhone and iPod.

I’ve found planting and harvesting vegetables as well as designing my own farm to be an oddly pleasant experience.

If you’re a fan of Farmville or other similar games, or if you just fancy giving this virtual farming thing a try, I’d recommend Tap Farm as a good starting point.
