This week, Lucasarts are releasing a special edition of one of the best games from my childhood.

The Secret of Monkey Island is easily one of the most influential games ever released, featuring an imaginative storyline, quirky characters and a charming score.

Playing the part of Guybrush Threepwood, the game was a point and click adventure, where you had to prevent the evil ghost pirate LeChuck from marrying Governor Marley.

Needless to say, I am very excited (and slightly nervous) about revisiting this cult classic. Whilst I am happy it is making a return, “special editions” are always a controversial idea (especially when a certain “Lucas” is involved). Luckily, the developers have retained the original code, so retro-nerds like myself can flip back to the old school Monkey Island at the touch of a button, should this new and improved version make us accuse Lucasarts of trashing our childhood memories.

The Secret of Monkey Island is released today on steam and X-box live
