I was surfing the net in my lunch break the other day when I came across this:

Suddenly my nostalgia-o-meter went into overdrive - I had rediscovered one of the best games of my childhood - I had rediscovered Microsoft’s Fury3. As one of the best flight-sim shooters of the early 90s, Fury3 set the bar in action, excitement, graphics and gameplay, even if the story left much to be desired (in fact, it had very little plot whatsoever.) So what was it that made me love this game so much? In a word- score.

The score of a game can really make or break a gamer’s pleasure- take Final Fantasy 7 for example- known as one of the best games ever made to many people (including me.) Yes the game is brilliant, yes the story was thrilling, yes the characters all looked like small groups of moving polygons, but the score gave rise to some of the most amazing battle music ever written, such as this, Jenova’s battle theme:

And it’s metal remix, which I think is even better:

And with modern games such as Mass Effect, Call of Duty and Fallout 3 continuing to make great music for great games, here’s hoping my aging surround-sound system will be up to the task!
