2008 was a bit a rough year for the PSP. Sonys baby console was well and truly trounced by Nintendo's DS and despite what great things the console is capable of, games developers just couldn't be bothered with it.

There was the odd title, here and there that managed to raise a few eye brows, but nothing came out that raised the bar like the Grand Theft Auto games did.

With the announcement of Resistance: Retribution coming out this spring, I am hopeful that this title might give the developers a much need kick up the backside and realise that there is some worth in the PSP. But I am not counting my chickens.

Perhaps the future for the system is online? What with the likes of Ape Quest, Beats, Brain Challenge, flOw and Syphon Filter: Combat Ops - I have noticed that a lot of titles are getting an exclusive release on Playstation Network.

The whole point of the PSP is portability (heck, its even part of its name!), so logically, it would make sense to have a system where all you have to have with you is the console itself and no games and no excess UMDs.

Who knows?

Rumours are abound that the PSP 2 will be announced sometime later this year.

Whatever way Sony wish to play the portable market, remains to be seen.
