Nintendo used their slot at this year's E3 event to unveil their latest handheld gadget, the 3DS.

As reported earlier in the year, the 3DS will provide 3D gaming without the need for glasses.

Early word from the event is promising and the line-up of forthcoming games is certainly interesting – with both Nintendo and many reputable third-party studios announcing titles for the new handheld system.

The 3DS itself will feature a slightly wider top screen measuring 3.5 inches. Nintendo are boasting that it will display full 3D graphics and that the 3D depth will be adjustable with a slider on the side of the unit.

The graphics will be much improved from previous DS models and other features include a gyrosensor and a motion sensor.

The unit also has two camera lenses on the outside, effectively allowing users to take photographs and display them in 3D.

In addition to the control system established on the previous models, an analog stick has been implemented.

Nintendo also revealed the 3DS will be able to display Hollywood movies from Disney, Warner Bros and Dreamworks in 3D.
