Never mind pulling a rabbit from a hat, London Scottish signed the Cat in the Hat last week.

Worcester Warriors winger Sam Smith, likened to the Dr Seuss children's character played by Mike Myers in the 2003 film, has moved to the Athletic Ground on loan for the rest of the season in search of more game time.

The ex-Harlequins winger joined the Warriors in the summer of 2014, and scored 15 tries in 19 matches for them in the 2014/15 campaign, but has since found game-time hard to come by after their promotion to the Aviva Premiership.

The 25-year-old spent five years at Harlequins and racked up 29 tries in 79 matches for the Premiership side - representing England at U16, U18 and U 20 levels.

Scottish head coach Peter Richards said: "Sam is a top class winger and we are excited to have him. He brings some excellent qualities as we look to build on our good form in recent weeks."

He added: "He scored against us last year and we are very grateful to Worcester for allowing Sam to join us, as well as Alex Grove who has been a regular over the last month.”

Smith, who made his debut as a replacement, could not help his new side to a sixth consecutive victory in all competitions on Sunday as the Scots crashed 17-3 at Nottingham.

Poacher: Mark Bright in his familiar position at the back of a maul or scrum on his way to the try line

His arrival followed the bombshell that influential number eight Mark Bright would be making the short switch to Championship rivals Ealing Trailfinders next season.

Bright will call time on an impressive five-year spell at the Athletic Ground in the summer, having made more than 120 appearances for Scottish.

"I would like to thank everyone involved from London Scottish for the past five years, the coaches, players, trainers and medical team for all of their help," said the 37-year-old.

"To all the supporters, you guys have been great and I have enjoyed getting to know a lot of you after games whether home or away. I'm sure we will cross paths again.

"A special mention to Martin Gilbert and Aberdeen Asset Management who have sponsored me for the past five seasons, I can't thank you enough.

"It has been a great five years at a great club where I have made some life long friends and had the privilege to play over 100 games. I'm sad to be leaving but like I said, we will cross paths again.

"I am fully committed to Scottish for the remainder of the season and am looking forward to the upcoming games."
