Richmond FC were dominant at the breakdown and that’s where the game was won according to London Scottish director of rugby Dave Morris.

A high error and penalty count went against Scottish and allowed Richmond to inflict a deserved 24-19 defeat in the opening game of the season.

“The hunger of Richmond at the contact blew us away,” said Morris.

“We addressed it half time and came out for the second half and put some good stuff together, but ultimately our set piece was second best and we were second best in the contact for most of the day.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do, there’s a lot of London Scottish that turned up and we know we’ve ruined their weekend, and we feel pretty bad about that, but we stick together and work hard again starting on Monday.”

Club captain Mark Bright echoed Morris’s thoughts as he looked ahead to next Saturdays fixture at home against Ealing.

“They came out flying and deserve the victory.

“Too many turn overs and penalties cost us at the end of the day.

“There were 5 penalties at the set piece which is unacceptable. Hopefully we can fix that for next week.”

Ealing lost their opening fixture against the much-fancied London Irish 20-7.
