Goals from central defender Will Forrester and Dane Scarlett gave Leyton Orient a 2-0 win over Blackpool at Brisbane Road which plunged the visitors into the bottom four in League One.

It was only Orient’s second home league win of the season and Forrester had an impact at both ends of the pitch.

After giving his side a 31st-minute lead against the run of play when he headed home an Alex Gilbert cross from the right, the defender then cleared a Zac Ashworth header out from under his own crossbar.

The scoreline was harsh on Blackpool, who have now picked up just one point in their last six league games but might have been awarded a penalty after 20 minutes when Josh Bowler appeared to be bundled over by Alfie Gilchrist.

The winger missed a glorious chance to equalise for the visitors on the hour when he cut inside only to skew his shot wide as he lost balance.

That error was punished 14 minutes from time when substitute Scarlett converted from the spot after Idris El Mizouni’s shot struck the hand of Oliver Casey moments after a Joseph Olowu header came back off the crossbar.
