Steve Parish has revealed Crystal Palace’s attempts at signing Jack Wilshere from Arsenal “arrived as fast as it went”.

The England midfielder was linked with several clubs after it emerged Arsenal were willing to send him out on loan.

Palace were said to be one of the frontrunners in the race to sign the 24-year-old, but Wilshere eventually opted for Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth.

The Eagles failed to land any deadline day signings and Parish admitted the club were interested in a deal for Wilshere.

He told Holmesdale Radio: “It was a bit like Haley’s Comet – it arrived as fast as it went.

“We were contacted and asked, ‘would we be interested?’ We said yes and threw our hat in the ring but the player decided to go to Bournemouth, I think one of his best mates plays there.

“He’s a very, very good player – that’s the level of player we are trying to bring to the club. You can’t win them all.”

Palace made at least one offer for Charlton star Ademola Lookman on deadline day.

The 18-year-old has attracted attention from several Premier League teams and Addicks boss Russell Slade told News Shopper the club had to stay strong to snub the interest from Palace.
