Lyle Taylor has opened up about playing against AFC Wimbledon for the first time since leaving them for Charlton in the summer.

The 28-year-old, who played all 90 minutes with a toe injury, netted his 10th League One goal this season during the Addicks’ win over the Dons.

But he would go over to the 1,078 travelling fans at full time to applaud them, which most responded by applauding him back.

Taylor spent nearly three years at AFC Wimbledon, signing from Scunthorpe United in July 2015, before joining Charlton in June this year.

In an Instagram post he said: “[That was] a strange 90 minutes for me personally.

“Glad to have come out on top and to have three points, but hard to see a club so close to my heart lose.

“Great to see some old friends and the reception from everyone in the stadium today was amazing! Thank you! It means the world to me!”

Taylor scored 55 times for AFC Wimbledon in 133 appearances across half a decade, the most prolific spell of his career.

And his most recent League One goal for Charlton beat his total for the Dons all of last season after he netted 10 times in 2016/17 across 43 appearances.

He added: “A massive thank you to Dillon Phillips for lending me his boots after what happened to mine against Portsmouth!”
