Emiliano Marcondes’s deadline day loan move to Danish side FC Midtjylland came as a surprise to many at Brentford, including the man himself.

The 24-year-old midfielder had featured in all four of the Bees opening fixtures, starting in three, making the move to Denmark more eyebrow raising.

Marcondes will be at the Danish Champions, also owned by Brentford owner Matthew Benham, until December 31st, when the club will re-assess the loan.

“I played a lot in the pre-season and in the first games of the season for Brentford, but I was a little frustrated,” Marcondes told BT.

“I had done okay in a match where I started and where we won.

“Then I was on the bench in the next match.

“I was frustrated with that.

“I have a much better feeling now here and am just looking forward to training every day and playing matches.”

Brentford boss Thomas Frank was busy during the transfer window, bringing in Christian Norgaard, Mattias Jensen and Bryan Mbuemo, all of whom can play in Marcodnes’ favoured central midfield position.

Marcondes revealed that after a meeting with Frank he decided it would be best for his career to seek regular game time after an injury hit campaign last season, something the Bees boss couldn’t guarantee.

“There are many offensive players at Brentford,” he continued.

“They (Brentford) seemed to need some fresh energy in the team.

“I didn’t agree with that.

“They (Frank) said it would be like that, with a lot of rotation in the attack throughout the season.

“I don’t need that because I’ve been hurt so much. I have to play 90 minutes every time.

“It’s a great opportunity to play at the top [club] in Danish football and come home, closer to my family.

“It’s nice that it’s not completely unfamiliar when it’s such a short stay. I had other opportunities in the Netherlands and Belgium.”

Marcondes made his debut for Midtjylland in their 3-0 win over Lyngby on Saturday.

Brentford fell to a 2-0 defeat at Preston in what has been an indifferent start to their 2019/20 campaign.
