Rafael Nadal has questioned Wimbledon's seeding system ahead of the Championships.

Seedings for the third Slam of the year were released on Wednesday and Nadal has seen been seeded third, behind world number one, Novak Djokovic and world number three, Roger Federer.

The US, French and Australian Opens use the ATP and WTA rankings for their seed placings, whilst Wimbledon take grass-court performances into account - meaning Nadal drops to third seed, below Federer despite sitting a place above the Swiss great in the rankings.

"I don't think it is a good thing that Wimbledon is the only one with its own seeding formula," the 2008 and 2010 champion told Spanish TV station Vamos.

"Wimbledon is the only tournament of the year that doesn't follow the rankings.

"It's their choice - Either way, being second or third seed, I have to play at the best level to aspire to the things I aspire to.

"It is better to be second than third, but if they consider that I have to be third I will accept."

The seedings mean that Nadal would be in the same half of the draw as current champion Djokovic, with a semi-final encounter with the Serbian a possibility.

Nadal comes in to the tournament in fine form after a stellar clay-court season where he lifted his 12th title.

Meanwhile in the Ladies event world number one and French Open winner Ashleigh Barty takes top seeding, with Naomi Osaka and Karolina Pliskova taking second and third respectively.
