For Alan Judge and Ipswich, who made his first return to Griffin Park since leaving in January, this is now their third defeat in six games.

Thomas Frank made two changes to the team which drew with Derby County, drafting in Josh Dasilva and Moses Odubajo.

The opening 15 minutes saw Brentford struggle to break Ipswich down, who set out to disrupt the opposition behind a compact defensive system.

The visitors’ closest chance to scoring arrived moments before the opening goal – Collin Quaner scraped the far post after trying to chip Luke Daniels in a glaring one-on-one chance.

Then, on 20 minutes, Benrahma skipped past a defender to thread in Maupay as the striker escaped a last-ditch tackle to fire home.

And they were gifted their second goal when Flynn Downes’ slip enabled Benrahma to tee up Watkins for a close range finish eight minutes later.

The Algerian winger was nearly unplayable at times, and could’ve had another couple assists by half time through goalscorers Maupay and Watkins.

While Brentford were in the driving seat, Ipswich threatened a comeback as the Bees appeared guilty of overplaying instead of being more clinical.

After Benrahma clipped the crossbar following Romaine Sawyers’ cross, Judge broke through the defence before blazing his effort well over.

His dangerous cross which Luke Daniels was forced to tip over the crossbar was another warning shot before going close again not long after.

But despite the hosts not strengthening their grip on the game it was still a relatively comfortable win in the end.
