The blustery weather got the better of Leatherhead and Folkestone Invicta as the two play-off chasers played out a stalemate at Fetcham Grove.

With both teams harbouring play-off ambitions, anticipation was high among the 355 crowd ahead of kick-off but the match failed to spark into life for the full 90 minutes.

The first real chance of any note came in the opening ten minutes with Leatherhead’s Jack Skinner firing over the bar following neat interplay between Ibrahim Olutade and Travis Gregory.

Wimbledon Times:

Most of the first half was marred by clumsy fouls from both teams and neither team gaining real control due to the swirling winds carrying the ball in each and every direction.

Two late half chances for Charlie Hester-Cook and Travis Gregory who both hit lacklustre shots towards the Invicta net brought an uninspiring half to an end.

The second half started where the first one left off with neither team exerting any real pressure on their opponent’s goal.

On the 70thminute Leatherhead carved out the best opportunity of the game when the Olutade had a chip cleared off the line. The striker raced onto a superb pass from Will Salmon before lifting the ball over Tim Roberts in the Seasider’s goal only for it to be cleared off the line by Finn O’Mara.

Despite failing to win all three points, the match was a cause for celebration for Leatherhead as club stalwart; Jerry Nnamani made his 351stappearace for the club capping it off with a clean sheet.

Speaking after full-time, Nikki Bull said he couldn’t fault the effort of his players; “I thought everyone of them put in a real effort for 90 minutes but we obviously came up short. We didn’t create too many clear cut chances and were found a little bit wanting in the final third but defensively we were very sound.”

Next week Leatherhead travel to the seaside as they face another play-off rival as they face off against Bognor Regis.
