Carshalton Athletic's Bostik Premier play-off hopes come under real scrutiny this coming weekend, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

A hard-fought 1-0 win at Potters Bar Town on Saturday stretched the Robins' current unbeaten league run to 10 matches and leaves them just one point outside the top five.

But they are up against another club currently in fine form on Saturday as it is a trip to league leaders Dorking Wanderers whom recently registered an 11th straight league victory by defeating Wingate and Finchley 2-1.

And Carshalton player/manager Peter Adeniyi knows he and his players are coming up against a massive hurdle in their quest to be a part of the promotion mix.

"It's a big game but we'll treat it like every other one so far. If we go and put in a performance we can be proud of then the result should take care of itself," said Adeniyi.

"Dorking are the best team in the league right now and, barring a massive slip up, they'll go on to win it.

"So it's going to be a tough match but we'll give a good account of ourselves and see where we are come 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon."

Wimbledon Times:

The Robins' latest win came at a windswept Potters Bar last weekend as a 53rd minute goal by striker Mike Dixon, whom followed up after Jacob Mendy saw his spot-kick saved by Niko Tzanev, proved the difference between the two sides.

That was a first league away win since November for Carshalton as, since the New Year, they have either conceded added time equalisers or missed penalties to ultimately drop eight precious points.

"It was always going to be a difficult game, and the weather conditions didn't make it easy for either side, but we spoke to the boys before kick-off about their mentality because sometimes you have to grind out results," Adeniyi added.

"We missed a couple of golden chances late on however but thankfully, considering those three games where we conceded in the last minute, that didn't cost us and I can pleased with a professional performance by the boys."

Carshalton fans have seen their heroes take on Dorking twice already this season but, while their opponents current form may make people rub their eyes in disbelief, they will take heart in the fact they haven't seen their side lose to the league leaders yet.

Dorking escaped with a 0-0 draw at Colston Avenue back in November after Ricky Korboa saw a late penalty saved, plus the pair were drawn in the FA Trophy first round proper before Christmas and defender Paris Hamilton-Downes' second-half header was enough to send Carshalton through.

"It's going to be a tough game but we are looking forward to it. We've managed to keep two clean sheets against them this season and the same again on Saturday would be useful," Hamilton-Downes added.

Carshalton Athletic's trip to Dorking Wanderers is on Saturday 16th March (kick-off 3pm).
