Brentford FC’s status as a ‘family club’ was highlighted this week as their Community Sports Trust held a ‘Meet the Players’ day at Uxbridge High School.

More than 80 children attended the half-term event where they got to meet a number of first team players including Neal Maupay, Dan Bentley and Romaine Sawyers.

As well as meeting their idols the children took part in a kick-around with the Championship side and goalkeeper Bentley believes days like this are vital for the community.

“Professional footballers have a responsibility to the local community and events like today are a fantastic opportunity for children and young Brentford fans to meet us,” said Bentley who last year signed up as the Trust’s Equalities and Disabilities Ambassador.

“I think it is important that we raise awareness of local community initiatives and highlight our profile off the pitch.”

Attending the event was Rob Moles and his seven-year-old son Mason, and he believes the Bees are leading the way when it comes to community initiatives.

“Mason is a massive Brentford fan and events like today are so special to him.

“As a football club, Brentford are so family orientated and the players go above and beyond for the local community.”

The day also included a training session with the Trust's FA qualified coaching staff and the presence of first team players at such events demonstrates the club’s commitment to the local community according to the Trust’s Operations Director, Luke Skelhorn.

“Brentford FC has always prided itself on its community ethos.

“Today’s Meet the Players event is another example of players connecting with junior supporters and we appreciate the continued support of Thomas Frank and all the football staff.

“Our player Ambassadors project – which was recently shortlisted at the London Football Awards – demonstrates how Brentford players go that extra mile to support community projects they feel most passionate about.”
