Sergi Canos had an eventful game in Brentford’s 3-1 FA Cup fourth round replay win over Barnet on Tuesday.

The winger opened the scoring for the Championship side but it was an 18 man melee triggered by a tackle on the Spaniard that people were talking about.

Reacting to the rash challenge by Barnet’s Medy Elito, the winger confronted the visitor only to see him fall to the ground clutching his face, indicating a head-butt from Canos.

“No, no!” the talented 22-year-old fiercely denied the accusation.

“I tried to say what happened, but he head-butted me and went down to the floor.

“I think the referee saw that and booked him, and me, but we move on.”

Barnet's Darren Sweeney also received a yellow card for his actions in the incident which saw 18-men involved in an exchange which spilled over into the advertising hoardings.

Despite the fracas Canos was impressed by the National League opponents and claimed his side had to be at their best to overcome the team that forced the replay thanks to the memorable 3-3 draw at The Hive last week.

“It was a good game from us, we knew it was a going to be difficult.

“They are a great team and they play some great football.

"Last week I said the same - I was very impressed by them and they made it difficult for us.

“But the main thing is to get in to the next round.”

Goals from Canos, Julien Jeanvier and Neal Maupay mean they will travel to Swansea in the fifth round despite the consolation from David Tutonda that had given Barnet a glimmer of hope.

Canos admitted the tournament is revered in his homeland, but he’s not getting carried away with thoughts of lifting the trophy just yet.

“I really enjoy the FA Cup, in Spain it’s very famous, it’s such a beautiful competition.

“But we will take it step by step.”

Brentford travel to Nottingham Forest in the league on Saturday before welcoming former manager Dean Smith’s Aston Villa side next Wednesday.
