Carshalton Athletic have moved to strengthen their squad as a returning Robin signed a deal this week, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

Midfielder Christie Pattisson, who was an integral part of the club’s Bostik South-winning squad last season before earning a move to National League club Braintree Town, returned to Colston Avenue just before Christmas.

And the club have moved to secure Pattisson’s services until the end of this season, with an option to extend the deal for a further season, as it looks to build on an overall positive start to life back in the Bostik Premier League.

Pattisson had made 13 appearances for struggling Braintree but a recent change of manager had meant his chances of playing regularly had decreased.

But he was further celebrating at the weekend as he scored during Carshalton’s comprehensive 3-0 victory over Tonbridge Angels.

"I didn't fall out with anyone at Braintree, I just wanted a chance to play every week and I am very happy to be back with Carshalton Athletic," he said.

“I’ve always said I just want to be in one place and get my head down. At this point in the season, I think it’s the right decision to stay here and aim to put in constant good performances.

“It’s been good to re-join my teammates, Peter & Keith again. I can continue developing here and I think we can finish high up in this division, especially if we get everyone in the squad back fit.”

Carshalton ended a miserable run of four straight league defeats with that win over Tonbridge as Tommy Bradford gave the Robins a half-time lead with his 97th goal for the club.

And Pattisson cemented his place back in the hearts and minds of the Carshalton faithful by powering home an exquisite half-volley from 18 yards on 50 minutes.

An own goal by visiting defender Arthur Lee ended the game as a contest on the hour and Pattisson added there will be more to come from him personally.

“I’m still not fully match fit but I’m feeling better after every game,” he said. “I can’t wait to face Bognor and try to help the team win another three points.”

"Ultimately its up to him to fulfill his potential but Christie is just the type of player who thrives under Peter and who will also benefit from the talent around him," said club chairman Paul Dipre. "We are delighted he has committed to us for the rest of the season."

Carshalton Athletic travel to Bognor Regis Town for their first match of 2019 on Saturday 5th January (kick-off 3pm).
