Fulham will take on European giants Juventus in the last 16 of the Europa League after coming through a tough tie against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Roy Hodgson's men knocked out the Uefa Cup holders after Brede Hangeland's goal secured a 1-1 draw in the Ukraine on Thursday night for a 3-2 aggregate triumph, having won 2-1 at Craven Cottage a week earlier.

Juve, who have been European champions twice and won three Uefa Cups, saw off Ajax Amsterdam in their tie.

Hodgson said: "It was one of those nights that the fans and everyone connected with Fulham can be very proud of.

"We did marvellously well to score and then keep them at bay like we did - they are one of the best teams in Europe."

But there was bad news for Fulham, with Bobby Zamora limping off with an Achilles injury and Danny Murphy seeing red in injury-time.

"Hopefully, it doesn't start to catch up with us further down the road - for now, we'll just enjoy the splendour of the occasion," Hodgson added.
