PRESTON NORTH END 2 V 0 CRYSTAL PALACE

Preston: Lonergan, Davidson, Chaplow, Mawene, Sedgwick, Nicholson, St Ledger, Whaley, McKenna (c), Jones, Mellor. SUBS: Hart, Hawley, Carter, Wallace, Neal.

Palace: Speroni, Butterfield, Hill, McCarthy, Lawrence, Carle, Soares, Derry (c), Scowcroft, Hills, Oster. SUBS: Ifill, Moses, Fonte, Ertl, Andrew.

Neil Warnock springs a surpise by dropping Moses and bringing back Lee Hills into the starting line up. Scowcroft, Lawrence, Soares and Speroni are also recalled.

4 min: Decent start by both sides as Lonergan does well to collect a very good Butterfield cross.

6 min: A brilliant last-ditch tackle from Butterfield prevents Mellor shooting when he looked clean through.

10 min: Butterfield does well to intercept a good through ball before Scowcroft hooks over at the other end.

12 min: Butterfield off the line this time from St Ledger after Palace failed to clear a corner. Good stop and Speroni punches away the next corner.

19 min: Preston are in control as Palace begin to revert to long ball again.

27 min: Palace cannot get hold of the ball for any decent amount of time but Preston aren't creating anything with their possession.

28 min: YELLOW CARD Hill booked for taking out Chaplow as he skated past him. Deserved it.

30 min: Sedgwick volleys wide after Whalley's cross deflects off McCarthy to him at the back post. Should have done better.

32 min: Whalley fires over from 20 yards after a good move from Preston involving Chaplow and Nicholson.

37 min: Palace have their first meaningful chance as Hills shot is well-saved by Lonergan. He had to come back on his right foot Hills but food work nonetheless.

40 min: Carle goes close this time as his right-foot shot from 20 yards goes just over. Followed good work from Butterfield down the right who has been Palace's star man so far.

43 min: YELLOW CARD Hills booked for a late challenge on Whalley. Was reckless.

45 min: Lonergan forced to save from Hills again as Oster's free-kick causes havoc.

HALF TIME. Preston have edge it but Palace were getting back into the game late on.

46 min: Preston get the second game underway. No changes.

49 min: Palace have a good spell of possession putting more than a dozen passes together before Carle shoots wide from distance.

50 min: Butterfield does well again to block Sedgwick's goalbound shot.

57 min: GOAL. Preston take the lead and I think it will be a Speroni own goal. There was a scramble in the Palace box caused by Davidson's deep cross and though McCarthy blocked Nicholson's first shot and Derry blocked his second on the lie, the ball ricocheted back in off Speroni's back. Unlucky.

61 min: Hills with another effort blocked by Lonergan after Soares burst through.

63 min: Palace should have had a penalty as Lonergan blatantly pushes Scowcroft in the back. Before that Carle's drilled free kick was deflected wide and it was his corner that was headed back in by Derry which caused the shove.

65 min: SUB Moses replaces Hills who, despite his chances, has been quiet and looked out of position.

67 min: McCarthy hurls himself of Mellor's shot and makes a good block.

72 min: SUB Davidson replaced by Hart and Andrew replaces Carle as Palace go 4-4-2.

75 min: Scowcroft unleashes one from 20 yards that Lonergan does well to tip over before Soares's good cross causes confusion and the ball deflects over.

80 min: Whalley shoots high and wide when he had men better placed. The crowd don't like that.

83 min: SUB Ifill comes on for Oster.

86 min: Scowcroft's gets his head to Butterfield's cross but it's straight at Lonergan. Then Mellor fires wide at the other end.

90 min: Attendance 14,225. Four minutes added on.

90 min: GOAL. Game over as Chaplow skins McCarthy in the box and finishes across Speroni. Good goal.

FULL TIME Palace suffer their first defeat of the season. Preston probably deserved it though Palace have been by far the better team since the home side scored. A lack of cutting edge and creativity told again and yet again highlighted the fact that Warnock needs another striker. Palace next game is at home to Burnley next Saturday, join us live here from 3pm.
