Welling United combined with sponsor Shampan in Welling to visit Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich.

The purpose was to thank all the NHS staff including the Doctors, Nurses and ancillary staff members for their dedicated work in the current very trying circumstances.

Chairman Mark Goldberg, Manager Brad Quinton and striker Korrey Henry represented the club to donate some of the Shampan Group’s award winning Indian cuisine to the hospital staff.

Goldberg said “I would like to offer my thanks to Shampan for sharing with us in our joint initiative in donating their fabulous food to the wonderful staff at this hospital.

“I speak on behalf of everyone involved with Welling United F.C. and supporters who I know all recognise the amazing work that our local hospital workers provide and therefore we also want to show our appreciation to all those who put their lives on the line for us in our local community.”

Quinton added “During this pandemic, Covid-19, it is overwhelming to see what our NHS staff put themselves through, to actually really commit and fully concentrate in such dangerous circumstances and still go home to their loved ones is unthinkable. Family life must be so hard when they do it day in day out. We all, in life, take so much for granted.

“Football is football but in these times its about love and caring and being sensible. Shampan have really helped put a smile on some faces today and I am pleased to help the NHS in anyway possible.”
