Roy Hodgson has hit back at suggestions that Jordan Ayew is under appreciated in English football.

The Ghanaian was recently crowned Crystal Palace’s Player of The Month for August after a fine start to the season which saw the 28-year-old net twice for the Eagles, doubling last year’s tally.

Ayew has been a divisive figure amongst Palace, Aston Villa and Swansea fans in the four years he’s been in English football, nudging his elder brother Andre to claim he was undervalued.

"Jordan has never got the recognition he deserves, but I think now people are starting to recognise his work," Ayew senior told the BBC.

This season Jordan Ayew has cemented down a starting berth in Hodgson’s side, holding of the challenge of Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham to lead the Palace line.

His two goals, the winner over his former club Villa and the opener in the historic win over Manchester United at Old Trafford, along with the desire he’s shown in the Palace shirt have won over Eagle fans previously unconvinced by Ghana’s all-time top scorer.

One man who didn’t need convincing was his manager, who was quick to praise his stand out performer this season.

“I’m not sure who he’s (Andre Ayew) talking of when he says who isn’t appreciating him (Jordan),” Hodgson said.

“It certainly wouldn’t be a fair comment in regards to ourselves here, myself, the coaching staff, players.

“We have an enormous amount of respect for him and count ourselves lucky to have him with us.

“I feel quite comfortable in saying that quote has no relevance here at Crystal Palace.

“We certainly has the full respect of his talents, and that’s shown - he’s playing every game!”
