Crystal Palace are expecting more from Wilfried Zaha says Roy Hodgson.

The Eagles attacker has yet to register a goal or an assist this season, an unexpected return from Palace’s undoubted star man.

Scoring ten goals and an equal amount of assists last term, the Ivorian’s contribution, or lack of, has been felt at the club, but manager Hodgson believes it’s only a matter of time before that changes.

“I have realised he’s not scored, that’s only because there’s not been many goals scored,” Hodgson said.

“So as far as assists go, it’s unkind to judge as there’s only been three goals so there’s only three assists!

“But, I think we expect a lot more from him and I think we’ll get it because his attitude in training and in matches has been excellent.”

Many pundits and critics have cited Zaha’s failed attempt at a move away from Selhurst Park for his apparent poor start to the season.

Reported bids from Arsenal and Everton were rejected by Palace despite the 26-year-old handing in a transfer request during the summer.

Hodgson admitted the saga may have derailed the former Manchester United man’s focus during the summer but has been impressed with his form in recent weeks.

“Once he got over the disappointment of the transfer window he’s buckled down for everyone at the club.

“He’s training well and his performances against Tottenham was excellent, as it was at Manchester United as Aston Villa.

“I’m very pleased with him but I can’t deny the fact he’s not registered any goals or assists.”

Crystal Palace welcome Wolves to Selhurst Park on Sunday.
