Frank Lampard says he is not expecting any surprises when Millwall visit Pride Park on Wednesday evening.

The Derby boss admits that although the Lions’ style of play may not be pretty on the eye, it can be effective, as he learned first hand in the fixture at The Den in August.

Goals from Jake Cooper and Shaun Williams was enough for Neil Harris’ men to register their first win of the season despite a David Nugent consolation, and Lampard knows his side will need to be on their metal if they are to get anything from the game.

"We know what is coming,” said the former Chelsea man.

"Millwall have a specific way of playing.

"They are, at times, direct, and they do not hide from that fact.

"They play to their strengths, they are well managed and have good players, we felt that when we went there early in the season.

"I think it suits their players and their style. I am certainly not what some might call a purist in that you must play football one way, that is certainly not the case.

"So credit to them in being very effective the way they play.

"As I said, we felt that when we went there and we will feel it again if we don't deal with it.

"We have to try and deal with it and then focus on what we can do to them when we have the ball."

Millwall travel to Derby 20th in the Championship looking to capitalise on their two games in hand on those below them.

Derby meanwhile are sitting in seventh looking to gate crash the play-off party.
