Millwall will be travelling Kingsmeadow to face AFC Wimbledon in the Fifth Round of the FA

Cup on Saturday afternoon, after both sides punched above their weight in the previous

round.

Neil Harris’ side knocked out Premier League opposition with a 3-2 victory against Everton

with Wimbledon following suit by defeating West Ham 4-2.

The last time Millwall were drawn away from home in the FA Cup was the 6-0 defeat to

Tottenham in the Quarter Finals two seasons ago so the Lions will be hoping to overcome

their poor away form against weaker opposition.

It is fair to say that both sides success in the FA Cup have been detrimental to their league

form as Millwall have not scored since knocking three past Everton, while Wimbledon have

only mustered one goal since the fourth round.

Having said that, both sides will be fancying their chances to progress to the Quarter-Finals

and increase their transfer budgets through receiving that £360,000 prize money.

Star Man – Scott Wagstaff

Wimbledon Times:

Scott Wagstaff is a name that most Lion’s fans will remember. The 28-year old accumulated

150 appearances for South-East London rivals Charlton Athletic between 2008-2013, but he

now carries out his trade West of the capital.

The winger notched two goals against West Ham in the previous round and has been a

dimond in the rough for the Dons during what is turning out to be a miserable season.

Wagstaff signed for AFC Wimbledon in the summer having been released from Gillingham.

The bearded messiah has been a hit with Dons fans this season as his robust style of play

injected some well-needed experience into a novice side.

If Wimbledon overturn the odds for the second time in the competition I am sure Wagstaff

will have a part to play.

The Manager – Walter (Wally) Downes

Wally Downes was appointed as Neil Ardley’s heir following his dismal in November. Like

Harris, Downes is a legend amid Wimbledon fans having amassed 207 appearances for

Wimbledon F.C between 1979-1988.

Wimbledon Times:

Having started his coaching career in Millwall’s academy, Downes and Harris have a well-

known relationship, and was in contact on the day of the draw.

Despite not moving from the foot of the table, Wimbledon have made progress under

Downes. He has managed to weld the leakage in defense, as recent defeats have been only

been through an individual goal.

The most notable of those being against League One giants Sunderland.

Ahead of the tie Downes noted:

“It’s a local derby and it should be a great day. Two giant-killers are playing against one

another, they knocked Everton out and we knocked West Ham out.

“It’s a different dynamic for both of us in the next round. All of a sudden now, Millwall are

the giants.”
