Charlton were on a revenge mission in their 3-0 win at Shrewsbury according to goal scorer Darren Pratley.

A Lyle Taylor tap in and a Karlan Grant penalty either side of Pratley’s superb strike maintained The Addicks pursuit of automatic promotion at Montgomery Waters Meadow, and the midfielder claimed they had an extra incentive to get the result.

“Last time Charlton were here we got beat in the playoffs, so we wanted to put that right,” said Pratley referring to last season's heartache.

“It’s a tough place to come.

“Over the years when I’ve played here, it’s hard!

“The manager wasn’t too happy at half time, he had a go at us and second half we played much better and got the goals.”

Pratley’s second league goal of the season came at a significant moment in the match as the game was evenly poised.

The 33-year-old admitted that he knew his strike from the edge of the box was in the moment he hit it, but his team mates were less than complimentary.

“The lads were saying it was a good clearance, but I’ll take that!

“To be fair I knew it was in. Lyle said he was going to turn and swivel, but I shouted leave it and hit it.

“I hit it well and I knew it was going in.

“But I think we needed the third goal to cement the game.

“It was brave of Karlan to take the penalty, he missed a few chances before that so it shows the character in him to step up, a lot of players would’ve passed it on.

“Lyle is our usual penalty taker so it was nice of Lyle to give it up.”

Asked where his goal ranked in his career the midfielder quipped:

“I got one from the halfway line so that was a better clearance!”
