It’s hard not have noticed Lyle Taylor this season. Both for his football and for his fashion.

The Addicks striker has netted seven times in 12 appearances this term and has rightly received plaudits from manager, coaches and fans alike.

But throughout the month of October the man who arrived in the summer has been noticeable for his pink hair as he raises awareness for his Pink October campaign for Cancer Research UK.

And on October 23rd the whole club will get involved.

Taylor explained to the club website: “The Oxford game on October 23rd, the theme is pink. I think everything is going to be pink, we’re trying to get people to wear pink clothes. There are pink hats, we’re going to try and do as much as we can. I won’t be the only one in pink which will be nice.

“If people want to dye their hair pink, they can, I’m more than happy. It’s about everyone coming together as a club and I think if we can show that solidarity and everyone is in pink, this will reach a lot further than otherwise it would.”

Taylor’s family will be in attendance for the Oxford game on the 23rd, a date that represents his aunt’s birthday who lost her life to cancer a year ago.

“Three of my four grandparents have suffered, beaten or are living with cancer of different forms. My aunt passed away last year, the morning we played Charlton in the FA Cup. I’ve got a list of people as long as my arm, who have suffered and lost that fight and some that have beaten it as well. It’s not just about me, I’ve had so many messages from other people about this and about what I am doing. The support has been fantastic from the Charlton fans, to fans of other clubs, to the players, to the women’s team. It’s just been brilliant and I am proud to have done it and I am actually excited for the month.”

Over £3,500 has already been raised on Taylor’s giving page and is set to only rise.

Lynn Daly, spokeswoman for Cancer Research UK in London, said of Lyle’s campaign: “Cancer has clearly left its mark on Lyle and his family. We’re really grateful he’s decided to go ‘pink’ for the month and raise money that will help our scientists prevent, diagnose and treat all 200 types of cancer.”
