Swansea marked Paul Clement's appointment as their new head coach with a dramatic 2-1 victory at relegation rivals Crystal Palace.

The 44-year-old had been appointed only hours before kick-off and was not officially scheduled to take charge until Saturday at Hull, but he came down to the touchline as goals from Alfie Mawson and Angel Rangel secured only their fourth Premier League win of the season.

Victory lifted Swansea off the foot of the table and means new Palace manager Sam Allardyce has taken only one point from three games.

STAR MAN

Gylfi Sigurdsson. In addition to Swansea's opening goal coming from one of the midfielder's several classy deliveries, he dictated much of his team's tempo and was largely responsible for the positive and ambitious performance that may yet revive their season.

VIEW FROM THE BENCH

Having overseen his first home match as Crystal Palace manager, Sam Allardyce may conclude he has accepted a more difficult job than he realised.

As he has acknowledged, they have a reasonable squad that should be capable of more than simply competing to avoid relegation, but as they did at Arsenal on Sunday - his second of three matches as manager - they looked devoid of direction and confidence.

He will need all of his experience as manager to inspire them.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

New Swansea head coach Paul Clement's decision, shortly before half-time and then early into the second half, to abandon his watching brief from the stands and start giving his team instructions from the sidelines. Should he be admired for his enthusiasm, or will some criticise him if he attempts to take credit for a crucial victory?
