With their team mate Reece Priestly embroiled in a two way battle for the lead of Wimbledon’s Winter Banger League, The Dreamers team led by national banger star Steve Anscombe, arrived on mass for the latest round of the competition.

For the early part of the season, Brighton’s Rob Barnes headed the leader board, but in recent weeks Priestly, or "The Hobbit" as he is affectionately known, chipped away at the lead and has now overtaken the visiting driver for the top spot.

As we get to the business end of proceedings, team tactics are going to play a vital role in determining just who will be crowned this year’s champion.

Out to assist Priestly and boost his prospects of the title, were three other Dreamers, Pete "Bodja" Osborne, Ashley "Squiz" Rumary and new boy Steve Saw making his debut for the team.

From the start, it was clear that the message had gone out from team captain Anscombe that doing their best to slow down the other drivers to help out their team-mate was the order of the night, which made things very entertaining for the watching crowd massed in the stands.

Wimbledon Times:

Cheers: Reece Priestly extended his lead in the Winter Banger League thanks to a few friends

Whilst Osborne and Rumary were doing the blocking and wrecking, Saw ably assisted Priestly through the predictable carnage as a pace setter, netting two top three finishes including third in the final.

With a steady, solid performance over the evening, without pulling up any trees as such, league leader Priestly ended the night with a modest 18 points, but sufficient enough to extend the gap between him and second place.

So will The Dreamers’ rising star Priestly pip Barnes to the title? Only time will tell.

This Sunday’s high octane four formula meeting offers a little something for every short oval racing fan.

The bangers not only are competing in their league, but have the additional attraction of their London Championship across the evening.

As we have seen this season, on the night just about anyone can win and anything can happen.

After winning the night’s final on his debut last time out, former Banger World Champion Keith "Maverick" Painter, will be keen to show well as the historic stock cars return to Plough Lane.

Completing the card are two non-contact formulas. The stock rods compete in round two of their new series, while the junior rods set out on the beginning of their championship.

Racing starts at 5.30pm, with turnstiles open at 4.30pm.
