Age UK Merton are looking for adventurers to take on a beautiful and demanding Freedom Trail trek in 2018 to raise money to support older people across the borough.

The Freedom trail takes place in the Pyrenees taking trekkers from France over the high mountains to Spain.

The route follows the Chemin de La Liberté, one of the toughest WW2 escape routes from Nazi-occupied France. Local people risked their lives to help the thousands of allied servicemen and Jewish refugees fleeing to safety.

The trek is arduous and steep, taking you through spectacular scenery passing plaques and memorials dedicated to their bravery.

The trek is run by Discover Adventure and the money you fundraise on this trek will help to support older people in the borough of Merton.

Age UK Merton enables older people to love later life by staying as independent, healthy,  involved in the community and active as possible.

You will receive the full support of Claire, the fundraiser at Age UK Merton, to give you advice for any fundraising activities to raise the money you need.

Claire, the community fundraiser, says “So many people have no links to World War 2 and cannot comprehend what it was like to experience. This trek is intense and will require training but it is a personal challenge which commemorates the bravery of others. You will understand history like never before and will be supporting older people in Merton at the same time.”
