A group of extreme sportsman made the most of the wet weather by turning a flooded play park into a wakeboarding wonderland.

Using a home built winch dubbed the ‘Swamp Donkey’ four friends spent an afternoon wakeboarding by being pulled at 25mph across a flooded park at Bushey Road in Raynes Park on Sunday, April 29.

Graphic designer, Richard Van Wyk, 27, said: "We saw the big puddle the full length of the football pitch and decided to make the most of the wettest drought in history and rushed home to get our homemade winch "Swamp Donkey" and ride the floods."

But this is not the first time the friends, who live in Raynes Park, have made use of public waterways for some recreational wakeboarding.

Mr Van Wyk said: "We have used it in the Thames until we got chased away by the police who pretty much said in a nice way, ‘I’m not too sure what you are doing here or what that thing is but I don’t think it’s allowed’.

"And even during the small amount of snow we had over this past winter took it up to Wimbledon Common and snowboarded over the frozen ponds."

The friends posted a video of themselves enjoying the wettest April on record however a hosepipe ban remains with the UK still officially in drought.

Mr Van Wyk said: "Since it’s been online we have been getting a lot of interest as people are commending us on making the best of the bad weather lately, and it seems to be cheering people up.

"That in itself is great."

Mr Van Wyk, and his friend Trevor Donovan, have recently set up their own production company, Creative Capture with the aim of creating "cool-looking stuff".
