Meryl Streep has scooped an Oscar for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher, in a movie partly filmed in Colliers Wood.

Streep starred in the Iron Lady, which was released in Britain earlier this month and had already triumphed at the Bafta and Golden Globe awards ceremonies.

Last night in Los Angeles she won the Oscar for best actress - adding to two she has already won for the films Kramer Vs Kramer and Sophie's Choice. The film, which used Wimbledon Studios in Deer Park Road to recreate locations including the House of Commons, also won the Oscar for Best Makeup during the ceremony at the Hollywood and Highland Center.

Streep was handed her award by Colin Firth, star of Oscar-winning film the King's Speech.
