A new football club will tackle a shortage of sport for adults and teenagers.

Mitcham Park FC, which was officially launched this weekend, will be based at Three Kings Piece in Commonside West.

General secretary Brendan Sullivan said: “There is a huge need for what we are doing in the community.”

At first the club will only feature teams for teenage boys and girls, but Mr Sullivan said he wanted to expand and eventually create sides for adults as well.

He said: “There is an abundance of talent in the area but there is not football for them when they get to 17.”

The new club has been backed by Merton Council, which marked out new pitches on Three Kings Piece.

It was officially launched on Saturday with a fun day including football challenges, face painting and a barbecue.
