Fairtrade Fortnight 2011 is just a few weeks away. And before the fun begins on 28th February, colleagues at Sainsbury’s Merton will be making a special visit to teach local school children the facts on Fairtrade. On Wednesday 2nd March 2011, Ruth Musetti, June Hyde and Dionne Davidson, from the store, situated in Colliers Wood, will be visiting St Thomas of Canterbury School. During the visit, the colleagues will give a presentation at assembly to show children why it’s important to support Fairtrade and the difference it makes to people in the developing world.

Following the presentation, the colleagues will be holding a number of fun Fairtrade activities with the pupils. This will include the ‘Fairtrade Quiz’ which helps children test their knowledge of Fairtrade.

Ruth Musetti who will be holding the fun Fairtrade learning session, said: “This is a great way of highlighting the importance of supporting Fairtrade to the younger generation in Mitcham. We hope the kids take away some fun learnings from the day”.

Sainsbury’s Merton visit takes place with Fairtrade Fortnight just a few weeks away. From 28th February to 13th March, the store will be raising awareness of Fairtrade to customers. The store has already planned to hold in-store sampling of Fairtrade products and has invited a local Fairtrade group to come into the store during the Fairtrade Fortnight.

Store manager Phil Jeal said: “We’re really looking to making Fairtrade Fortnight bigger and better this year. From visiting St Thomas of Canterbury through to our in-store activities during the fortnight, we hope to highlight to our community the benefits that supporting Fairtrade brings to developing countries. We hope that after the Fortnight, more customers will support Fairtrade.”
