A community meeting will be held in West Barnes Library on Tuesday 18th January 2011 at 7pm to discuss proposals for the library’s future. All residents are encouraged to come.
On 21st December, West Barnes Councillors Iain Dysart and Mary-Jane Jeanes discussed the proposals with Councillor Martin Whelton, cabinet member for community and culture. Coun Whelton told us that he hopes to avoid total closure by shutting the library on Mondays from April 2011. The matter will be considered at a Scrutiny Panel meeting in the New Year. Coun Whelton said he would consider allowing volunteers to increase opening hours or to use the library facilities for meetings to increase its usage. If people would like to know more, please can they contact either Iain Dysart or Mary-Jane Jeanes (Iiain.Dysart@merton.gov.uk or Mary-Jane.Jeanes@merton.gov.uk).
