Three sheltered housing complexes in Sutton are losing their residential wardens.
The current wardens at St Paul's Close, Crownbourne Court and Shearing Drive are retiring and the wardens being recruited to replace them will no longer live on site.
Christine Brown, whose 84-year-old father lives at St Paul's Close, says her father is devastated by the news.
She said: “My dad has lived there for 22 years and I think he is the longest resident. He has cancer and lives on his own and to have an on site warden means so much to him, it is why he chose to live there.”
A spokeswoman for the Sutton Housing Partnership said the wardens at all three sites are being replaced by full-time wardens who will work the same hours as the existing wardens but they will no longer live on site.
She said no new residential wardens had been employed since 2005 and residents are provided with a 24/7 mobile response service to provide cover out of hours.
