He might not be a Russian Oligarch, Saudi Sheikh or American Tycoon but a Wimbledon roofer is throwing his weight behind AFC in a bid to see the Dons return to the football league.
The main terrace at AFC Wimbledon’s Kingsmeadow ground will be named the Paul Strank stand for three seasons after the club reached a deal with the owner of Strank Roofing to sponsor the club until 2013.
AFC Wimbledon commercial director Ivor Heller said: “We are delighted to have a struck a deal with Paul Strank Roofing for the next three seasons.
“The sponsorship is not just about money. Paul Strank is a long standing Wimbledon fan who puts his money where his mouth is.
"I know that Paul wants other successful businesses to line up behind the Dons. This sets a great example as to how local firms can support local clubs.”
With only six weeks of the Dons’ debut season in the Blue Square Premier division remaining, the team still has a chance of making the playoffs, which could culminate in a Wembley play-off final in May for promotion to the national football league.
