It has been confirmed that the London Warriors will play the first game of their new season at The Cherry Red Records Stadium in Wimbledon.
The Warriors were recently announced as a part of a brand-new professional league, the American Football League Europe (AFLE). This new competition sees eight teams from across the continent battle it out over the coming summer.
The league was formally announced in early December of last year as a rival to various preexisting leagues across Europe. It would be a mixture of established clubs and expansion teams.
Representatives from Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Austria, France and Italy make up the rest of the league.
London was the last of the eight teams to be announced earlier this year, but it wasn’t until a few weeks ago that we learned the name and branding: The London Warriors.
They have been a staple of British American football for almost twenty years, but have decided now that the time is right to pursue a new opportunity in a cross-continent professional league.
On Sunday, 24th May, the London Warriors will open their campaign when they host the Panthers Wroclaw, of Poland, at Wimbledon’s Cherry Red Records Stadium.
It has yet to be announced where the Warriors will play permanently, but they will make Plough Lane their home for at least one weekend as they kick off their debut season.
