More than 20 London schools, teachers and teaching assistants are in the running for awards that recognise best in education in the UK.

The Tes Schools Awards aim to celebrate the achievements of people and schools across all education sectors.

The independent and state schools shortlisted have the chance to gain national recognition for their hard work and successes during the 2022/23 academic year.

Among the nominees for the Greater London area include schools such as Wimbledon High School GDST, Kingsdale Foundation School in Dulwich, and The Archer Academy in Finchley - which was shortlisted for two awards.

Individuals include Dr Joe Spence from Dulwich College and Andrea Rosewell from E-ACT Braintcroft Academy, who have been shortlisted in the Headteacher of the Year category for independent and state schools, respectively.

London trusts nominated for the Trust Team of the Year include London South East Academies Trust, which oversees Warren Road Primary School in Orpington and Bexley Music.

The awards are run by education sector magazine Tes - formerly the Times Educational Supplement - and the independent judging panel will select the winners, who will be announced at a gala dinner at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House on Friday, June 21.

Categories for the awards are extensive and cover every area of school life.

They include the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Setting of the Year, Excellence in Creative Arts, Inclusive School of the Year, and Specialist Provision School Leader of the Year among others.
